Australia Post’s large delivery fleet is being electrified faster with $40.5 million from the Albanese Government to reduce the fleet’s reliance on fuel and protect delivery of essential goods.

The funding, part of the Government’s 2026-27 Budget Strengthening Australia’s Fuel Resilience package, means Australia Post will speed up its deployment of larger electric vehicles like prime movers and the supporting charging infrastructure across its national network.

While Australia Post operates one of the largest electric delivery fleets in the country, most of the 5,100 electric vehicles are the smaller delivery vehicles, e-bikes and motorcycles already used by posties.

The Albanese Government’s investment builds on Australia Post’s efforts to electrify larger vehicles, including vans and trucks – marking a major step in the electrification of Australia Post’s heavier vehicle fleet.

Investing in electric vehicles and infrastructure improves the resilience of Australia Post’s national delivery networks, reduces reliance on diesel and supports long-term emissions reduction targets.

In 2024-25, Australia Post delivered 2.2 billion parcels and letters throughout the country.

“Australia Post has been at the forefront of electric vehicle adoption for over a decade, and this investment allows us to go further faster,” said Australia Post Group CEO and Managing Director, Paul Graham.

“We’ve seen promising results from our early electric truck trials and existing electric van fleet, and this next phase allows us to scale that across heavier vehicle types.

“It means less reliance on diesel, lower exposure to fuel supply disruptions, and a stronger, more sustainable delivery network for Australian businesses and communities,” he concluded.
